John-Willy Rudolph has been awarded the Norwegian King’s Medal of Merit in gold. Rudolph received the medal at the IFRRO AGM reception in the Oslo City Hall Wednesday 21 October.
In her speech, Deputy County Governor of Oslo, Rannveig Bjerkmo, underlined Rudolph’s long efforts in promoting the rights of authors and publishers, both nationally and internationally.
John-Willy Rudolph was Kopinor’s Executive Director 1982 - 2006. He was instrumental when IFRRO was founded in 1984, and he managed the secretariat in the first years.
Rudolph has in many years chaired IFRRO’s Development Committee for Africa and the Middle East. He is now Director of Kopinor’s Development Fund and chairman of the board of Norcode (The Norwegian Copyright Development Association), established 2007.
In his reply, Rudolph underlined the international nature of copyright:
- Looking beyond our borders is natural for me. The universality of copyright points beyond the nation state.
