Norcode in Finland

From 2.-4. October, Norcode participated in ARTMUSFAIR in Helsinki.

ARTMUSFAIR is a new Europeanwide music creators’ convention, dedicated to the source of music, the composers and writers of contemporary music and their representative organisations in Europe. Organised by the European Composers Forum, their first meeting took place during the Nordic Music Days 2008.

With support from Norcode a workshop was arranged 3.-4. October.

Authors Rights in the 21st Century
The title “Authors Rights in the 21st Century – principles, models, perspectives”, framed a variety of questions: Why are collecting rights & management societies crucial for the music world and how can they be most beneficial for composers in Europe? Why has collecting rights become a strong policital issue and how do the principles of CRMs face the reality in the digital age?

The workshop was also meant as a scene for sharing thoughts of the best practices and model scenarios to support functioning collecting rights management structures.

Lecturers were Alf Westelius (Professor at Linköping University/Sweden) and John Frandsen (composer, the Danish Composer’s Society).

Norcode provided funds for appr. 20 participants from Europa, among them Albania, Belarus, Bosnia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.
